That depends on where you ski and how long you stay. You can book a short budget ski holiday for less than NZD$1000 per adult, or splurge on 5-star accommodation and a longer stay in New Zealand. Lift passes are cheaper for children, and ages 10 and under ski free of charge at Mt Hutt.
Cardrona Alpine Resort has the most consistent snow of any New Zealand ski field. Its annual snowfall is low (just over 2 meters), but the sheltered slopes and excellent snowmaking capabilities mean Cardrona enjoys a longer season than any other New Zealand ski resort.
Treble Cone receives the most snowfall of any New Zealand ski field. If you’re looking for a powder day, this is your best chance. However, the snow is less reliable, so you might see the slopes closed sporadically through the winter.
Cardrona Alpine Resort, just over an hour’s drive from Queenstown, is the only major ski resort where you can stay on the snow in New Zealand. However, the on-mountain accommodation is very isolated, with no town nearby, so most skiers choose to stay in either Wanaka or Queenstown and drive up each day.
