It’s time for a day of fun in the snow at Mt Hutt. Just a 35 minute drive from Methven Village, this ski field is renowned for its big snowfall. Mt Hutt Ski Area, voted New Zealand’s Best Ski Resort 2015 – 2024 offers great natural snow captured in its south facing basin; combine that with 75 snow guns, and you are destined for some great sliding!

Driving time Methven to Mt Cook 260 km / 3.5 hours
Depart Methven and travel south to Mount Cook on the NZ Ski-Snow Highway. You will pass an amazing smoky turquoise lake, which is called Lake Tekapo, take a break in Lake Tekapo and visit the most photographed church in New Zealand – the famous Church of the Good Shepherd. Other attractions in Lake Tekapo include the spa complex Tekapo Springs.
Mount Cook Village is nestled at the base of the Southern Alps, offering stunning views of Mount Cook and its majestic surrounding. Towering at 3,724 metres, Aoraki/Mt Cook is New Zealand’s highest mountain, but it shares the spotlight with 27 other mountains in this stunning range that exceed 3,050 metres, along with countless others that come close, all making up the famous Southern Alps.
The stargazing here is magnificent and stargazing tours can be booked – Aoraki Mount Cook National Park forms the majority of New Zealand’s only International Dark Sky Reserve.

At 27 kilometres in length, the mighty Tasman Glacier is a powerful place to visit. It provides a landing place for helicopters making it one of the best places in the country for a scenic flight or glacier heli-hike.

Driving time Mount Cook to Queenstown 361 km / 3.5 hours
Continue your journey as you travel through the dramatic Lindis Pass which links the Mackenzie Basin with Central Otago. Stop in Cromwell if you wish, where you can visit orchards to buy some delicious fresh fruit, fruit ice creams, juices and ciders. Continue on to Queenstown, option to stop in wine country along the Gibbston Valley highway to try or purchase a drop or two of top Central Otago wine.
Queenstown sits on the shores of Lake Wakatipu among dramatic alpine ranges.
